its been a while since i posted something here (not counting the comms listing whiiich theres still a few slots open btw:3c), so heres a tiny life update
do you remember when i talked about the uni preparations? yeahh, that didnt work out. didnt even make it past the first round. it kinda took a toll on me for a bit and while im mostly over it now, it still stings a little. like you spend all that time and energy to make something, only to realize it didnt even mean a thing. whats worse is that we didnt even get any feedback on our work, so youre really just left in the dark as to what was the reason you didnt get in. was it the massive influx of ppl applying (around 200 ish) to such a limited place (12 ppl max), you not being good enough or both? Looking back, id assume it was a mix of both, but mostly the latter. 200/12 is A LOT, and while i believe i couldve absolutely done certain things better, the whole thing was very luck based imo.
as much as it is a bummer, i did pick up the comic i made and expanded it into a whole story, which id like to turn either into a full comic OR a short animated film someday! i havent made any animated shorts since art school so it would be nice to come back to it again^^
aside from that, i also joined some more fanzines again. first one is the shaddy themed 'gods favorite princess' zine and the other one is the 'sword coast sapphics' zine about, you guessed it, bg3 gals who love other gals. how could I say no to these two?
while were on the topics of comics and bg3, i just remembered the shadowzel comic. as for that, im probably still gonna keep it on hold. NOT canceling it big time, just not ready to come back to it yet. tbh i was thinking of rewriting it a bit, and by extention redrawing it too, because looking back, theres a lot of stuff that i don’t fw now, a lot of it having to do with being ooc and dialogs. god. i hate writing dialogs. and it SHOWS... but again, that will have to wait.
also, im finally getting somewhere with grimverse! after like a year of pondering stuff, i finally put on my big boy pants and started writing chapter 1 + a prequel to the main story! i realized that instead of planning everything beforehand (or in my case OVERplanning), what suits me more is writing spontaneously and figuring out where the story goes on the fly. sure, theres always some key points i use as a leash, but the more i go into detail with the planning, the more stressful it gets to keep up with. like oh, i slightly changed a certain characters look or personality? let me go over and change that long ass doc i wrote for them and redraw their ref sheet from scratch because this basically makes them an entirely different character than the one i worked with previously, right? the spontaneous route is simply more fun and fulfilling for me + i actually get shit done instead of just pondering minor details that most likely wont even make it into the final comic anyway. and if my artstyle changes throughout the process, making it look inconsistent and “rough”, then so be it. at the end of the day, im just one artist.
